Police campaign contributions
A data visualization report and analysis on police influence in local Boston politics in partnership with the ACLU Massachussets and Mijente.

The project was started in collaboration with the ACLU Massachussets and Mijente to understand the impact that police have on Boston politics by tracking political contributions to the Mayor and City councilors between the years 2010 - 2020. I was the project lead on behalf of BU Spark. The data was collected at the state of MA's OCPF website that reports all campaign contributions, the data was then filtered for police officers by using the employer and occupation columns. The officer holders such as Mayor and the City councilors were identified using their unique campaign finance ID (CPF ID).
Impact of the project The data visualizations created by the project have been referenced by the Boston Globe in coverage of Boston's 2021 mayoral race in explaining which mayoral candiates are in support of police officers. Link to the article can be found here
The project was published on the ACLU's website and got featured in their blog post to explain the contextual significance. You can find the full project dashboard here and you can find the blog post featured here
